In the loop

The FBA cutoff has passed. What does Amazon's 7-day cancellation clock mean for my FBM orders this Cyber Week?

November 3, 2026

Stay updated.

By now, the inventory part of Cyber Week is decided. Amazon's arrival dates for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday were October 14 for AWD, October 21 for FBA with minimal shipment splits, and October 28 for Amazon-optimized splits. Amazon says its fulfillment centers then shift to processing customer orders in November and December. If you sell on FBA and your stock missed those dates, that is a conversation about sales, and it is closed.

This page is about the other half. If you ship any orders yourself, there is a clock that is still running, and it does not care what date your inventory landed.

The number Amazon keeps

Amazon tracks a pre-fulfillment cancellation rate. It is the percentage of seller-cancelled orders out of your total orders during a 7-day period. It only applies to orders you fulfill yourself (Fulfilled by Merchant, or FBM). Amazon requires sellers to keep it less than 2.5%.

Amazon also says a rate above 2.5% may result in suspension of your Fulfilled by Merchant selling privileges or deactivation of your seller-fulfilled offers with high rates of cancellations. That is Amazon's wording, and "may" is the word to respect. It is a warning label, not a verdict.

It counts every cancel, and it does not ask why

Here is the part I think sellers miss. The rate includes all order and item cancellations initiated by the seller. The only carve-out Amazon names is the cancel your customer asks for.

Amazon's own cancellation FAQ lists the situations that push a seller to cancel: low or no inventory, forgetting to turn on vacation settings and receiving an order, pricing errors, listing errors, and technical issues. Five different stories.

My reading of those two pages is simple: they all end up in the same number. A stockout on a Friday afternoon and a price typo are different mistakes, but the count treats them the same way.

The cancels you did not make

There is a second way to land in that number. The rate also includes orders that are automatically cancelled because the seller failed to confirm shipment within the maximum time allowed. Amazon says it can cancel automatically if seven days have passed after the expected shipping availability date and the shipment has not been confirmed.

So an order that nobody confirms during the Black Friday rush can still turn into a cancellation later. The exact day depends on that order's expected shipping availability date. Amazon's pages do not say which date the 7-day period uses, and I will not guess.

Why seven days is a small window

Here is my own arithmetic, with made-up round numbers. Say you ship 40 orders a day. Over 7 days that is 280 orders, and 2.5% of 280 is exactly 7. Seven cancels is exactly 2.5%, and Amazon's line is "less than" 2.5%.

Seven is not a big number. One popular item going out of stock on a Friday afternoon can be seven orders.

Now put it on the calendar. Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30. A 7-day period ending on Cyber Monday starts on Tuesday, November 24. That window holds Thanksgiving, Black Friday, the weekend and Cyber Monday. It is the busiest stretch of the year, and the number does not take time off. Amazon does not say how it lines up its 7-day periods, so treat that as an illustration, not a rule.

The one thing to do today

Look at your number. In Seller Central, go to Account Health, find the Shipping Performance section, click View details, and select the Pre-fulfillment cancellation rate tab.

That is the whole first step. Know where you start, so the week does not surprise you.

Our take

The cutoff conversation feels final because it has a date and a deadline. The cancellation clock is quieter. It has no banner and no countdown, and it counts the stockout, the typo and the unconfirmed order as one thing.

I would rather a seller see that number on a calm Tuesday than discover it on a busy Monday. We do not think of it as a metric to chase. We think of it as a fact about the account that is worth knowing before the weekend starts.

Frequently asked questions

Does this apply to FBA orders?

No. Amazon says the cancellation rate only applies to seller-fulfilled orders. If you use FBA for everything, this clock is not yours. If you ship even some orders yourself, it is.

Do cancellations my customer requests count?

No. Amazon says the rate does not include customer-requested cancellations, including orders customers cancel directly through their Amazon accounts.

Does an automatic cancel by Amazon count?

Yes. Amazon includes orders it cancels automatically because the seller failed to confirm shipment within the maximum time allowed.

What happens if my rate goes above 2.5%?

Amazon says it may result in suspension of your Fulfilled by Merchant selling privileges or deactivation of your seller-fulfilled offers with high rates of cancellations. "May" is Amazon's word. We do not predict what happens in any individual account.

Where do I find my current rate?

In Seller Central, open Account Health, go to the Shipping Performance section, click View details, and select the Pre-fulfillment cancellation rate tab.
